Relicensing and conversion dates

Grants attach to versions and holders.

Dual licensing offers alternative grants from a party with authority to offer them. An SPDX OR expression records a choice; AND says multiple grants apply together. A recipient cannot rewrite AND as OR for convenience.

Business Source License 1.1 is source-available, with parameters set for a particular work and version. Examine its additional use grant, first public release, change date and change license. Production use before conversion is not universally authorized.

BUSL conversion occurs on the specified change date or the fourth anniversary of that version's first public distribution, whichever is earlier. The simulation injects an evaluation date, so repeating the same scenario produces the same result.

Preserve the historical grant evidence while meeting the effective license's conditions. Commons Clause and SSPL have their own terms; neither should be treated as an interchangeable spelling of BUSL.

Try it: The version's change date

This BUSL version converts to MIT on 2026-10-01. Evaluate the supplied date and add the license and attribution required by the effective grant. Keep the original BUSL evidence.

Project artifacts

Evidence artifact format

Source offers contain “component: id” and “source: https://…” on separate lines. Covered-file offers also list the covered paths. Relinking declarations contain “replace-compatible-library” for dynamic linking or “relink-object-files” for static linking, and “reverse-engineering-permitted”. These declarations model supplied release artifacts.
